Please describe and defend your character's view on the following issue (in the first or third person, as you prefer):

Antonia was effected greatly by Mr. Shimerda's suicide. Antonia counted on Mr. Shimerda throughout all the stress their family has gone through together, and she looks at him taking his life as him giving up. She feels very abandoned. They were in the mess together, and felt sa though Mr. Shimerda left them to fix it all on their own.

Mr.Shimerda believed the old country, Bohemia, was better than America. The guns were better. Mr.Shimerda continued to use his gun from the old country and eat the food from Bohemia. The family had a lot of trouble adjusting, between learning English and what they could and could not eat. Mr.Shimerda was ashamed, and so was his wife, of their living conditions. They were treated as if they were deaf. Mr. Shimerda lost two old friends and most likely felt lost and alone without them. They knew what it was like to adjust to a new country. Mr.Shimerda probably wanted to join them. He may have thought he could return to Bohemia as a spirit when he died, or maybe he just thought if he could not live in Bohemia, he should not live at all. Life in America was too much of a challenge, so why bother? Antonia would be better off without him, he had shamed his family so much.
